Since 1980, the National Marine Reserve Kiunga has been included in the list of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. It is an archipelago of Lamu, which is formed by coral reefs, 50 islands and the coast of Kenya. About 60 km is the coastline of the reserve on the mainland. The large islands and those that belong to the interior of the archipelago are covered with vegetation, and the outer islands are coral islands, sometimes reaching 18 m in height.

On the coast of the mainland stretch sandy beaches of silky coral sand, dunes, seasonally-arid forests and woodlands. The flora and fauna of the archipelago depends on the location. Exposed to the sea winds, the outer islands have scant vegetation. But those that are located closer to its inner part are covered with tropical forests and mangroves. There are also mangrove swamps on the coast.

Rare dugongs are the inhabitants of the reserve. Turtles of different species sail here to arrange nests for their eggs. On the inaccessible islands there are rare species of birds. Of interest are the pink, borer and ordinary stupid tern. Despite the severity and inaccessibility, the Kiunga National Park impresses with its wild beauty.

Watching the nature in this area, you are amazed at her fantasies. The landscapes that can be seen here are delicious, wild and cozy at the same time. People do not live in the reserve. The Territory is protected by the Wildlife Conservation Service in conjunction with the World Wildlife Fund.
