Fantastic landscapes, as if carrying travelers to the surface of the moon - such a spectacle awaits tourists in the National Park Lake Magadi. The water surface of the reservoir, sometimes dried up, is covered with a thick layer of soda. A lot of birds living in the vicinity, flock here and this picture becomes even more fascinating.
From the point of view of geology, this is explained by volcanic activity, as a result of which the hills near the lake are covered with alkaline ash containing sodium carbonate. Sodium is washed off by rainwater, but without natural drainage in the pond, it remains at the bottom. High temperatures and surface evaporation affect the fact that the surface of the lake is covered with alkaline crusts.

You can fully enjoy the views of this area by going along a paved road leading to the western shore of the lake, where there is a viewing platform. The solonchaks surrounding the lake on all sides change color depending on the lighting and weather. The saturated color range varies from white to pink and light cherry, scarlet, the watery surface overflows with colors of cobalt, indigo, and then again takes soft pastel tones. Among this variety periodically appear green islets of accumulated algae.

Lake Magadi is located in the heart of the Masai tribe, far from civilization and transport routes, in the south of the Rift Valley. All-wheel-drive vehicles can be reached here in one day. Without a suitable means of transportation, you can limit yourself to an equally fascinating excursion to hot springs that are located to the south. The springs do not look as impressive as the lake, but give the opportunity to dive into the stone deep bowls, see a variety of different fish that have adapted to the conditions of life in hot springs.
