The lake is located 90 km from Nairobi; best be reached by car. Unique freshwater volcanic lake Naivasha is located in the famous valley of the African rift. Its area fluctuates between 114 to 991 square kilometres, depending on rainfall intensity. The lake is so large that during strong winds it rises a storm at sea. For the Kenyans, the lake became a recreational centre: this is the location of the yacht club, moored private boats and boats for fishing. All the land around the lake is privately owned, so to get to the water, you need permission from the owner. The lake is home to 450 species of birds in the lake — hippos, and among coastal thickets of acacia can meet giraffes, buffalos and flocks of wild monkeys.
