The pearl of Lake Victoria The island of Roubondo was opened in 1977. It occupies 240 square kilometers. Rubondo is the largest island on the lake. The park is located on the island itself and the adjacent chain of smaller islands. The bright sand of the island's beaches turns into the dark green of the virgin equatorial forests with huge trees that hide a huge variety of animals and birds. Of these, 300 species are endemic. Wet forests of the island illuminate the first rays of the sun - and your eyes appear bright colors fluttering among the trees of butterflies, and your ears caress trills and screams no less bright and beautiful birds. And in the summer there is the opportunity to admire the flowering of more than 40 species of beautiful orchids growing in the local forests. Variety of wildlife Untouched by human hands forests that occupy 90% of the park territory, provide shelter for many species of animals. Primarily live primates here. Hippos, monkeys and mongooses are the indigenous people of Rubondo. After the creation of the park, chimpanzees, colobus, elephants and giraffes were brought here.
