Lake Nyasa (also Malawi, Niyasa and Lago Nyassa in Mozambique) is located in East Africa between Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Find it easily on the globe: long and narrow. Also it is perfectly visible from space. The resulting tectonic fault, it is so deep (706 meters) that among the freshwater lakes second only to Baikal and Tanganyika. Nyasa - the southernmost of all the waters of Africa lies in a deep depression (the Great Rift Valley) with a distance of 560 km. It is concentrated 7 percent of the world's reserves of liquid fresh water. The variety of the lake ecological system is unique. Interesting, but true "Nyasa" in translation from yao means "lake". It is believed that the first discoverer of the lake in 1616 was the Portuguese Gaspar Bucarra, however, his discovery was oblivious. In 1859, brave David Livingston swam along the Shire River to the pond, and was so impressed with his beauty that he called it the Lake of the Stars. But it was they who were included in the geographical documents - Nyasa. By the way, Shire - the only river that flows from the lake, and the main inflow for a reservoir of fifteen rivers gives Rukhuhu. The water of the reservoir tastes salty due to the increased concentration of minerals. It is noteworthy that thousands of years old baobabs of huge sizes, reaching 30 meters in diameter, grow on the islands of the lake. Sightseeing of one of the islands is St. Peter's Cathedral. Inhabitants of Lake Nyasa Africans consider the reservoir to be the source of life. Indeed, due to its origin and tropical climate, Lake Nyasa owns a world championship between the lakes for fish stocks. Their diversity is striking. Here live from 500 to 1000 varieties of waterfowl. Of all the fish populations, the most famous are chambo, as well as the campanha, the large catfish. A lot of live here bright fish (endemic), which for many local residents are a source of income. In connection with the huge demand in the aquarium business, fishermen catch them and, as a rule, they are sent for export. In lake waters in search of prey there are crocodiles and hippopotamuses. Here flies a huge number of birds. It is curious to watch such a bird as an eagle-screamer. They feed mainly on fish. Are arranged on trees which for them are an excellent observant platform. Justifying their name, they really scream mostly together, and a more loud cry at the same time - the female. Another common bird population in these places is black and white amads.  Perhaps the most common inhabitants of Lake Nyasa are: - Queen Nyasa; - blue dolphin; - Livingstone; - Malawi cichlid and others. For the local population, fishing is one of the most important fisheries, fishing villages are located along the shores of the lake. In these strange places, tourism develops, the crystal clear waters of Nyasa attract sailing regattas, divers. In the northern part of the coast is Matama beach, with golden sand, clear warm water, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the lake. Visiting Nyasa and its surroundings, you can personally see the uniqueness of these places and the extraordinary beauty of the amazing nature of Africa.
