Until the 1970s, the lake was called Rudolph. It was named in honor of the Crown Prince of Austria by two pioneers. When the terrain where this reservoir is located has been given the status of an environmental area, it has been renamed the Turkana Lake National Park.

The national park has a great archaeological value. Prehistoric artifacts were found in this area. Among them - the oldest stone tools. Scientists have determined their approximate age - 3.3 million years. Such findings allow us to call Africa the cradle of humanity.
