Lake Turkana is one of the most important natural attractions in the world. Compared with other lakes in Kenya, it is shallow - an average of 30 m, and the greatest depth - up to 109 m. However, the total area of this pond is 6405 km2.

Until the 1970s, the lake was called Rudolph. It was named in honor of the Crown Prince of Austria by two pioneers. They were Ludwig von Henel, an Austrian researcher, and Samuel Teleki, a count, a traveler from Hungary. When the terrain where this reservoir is located has been given the status of an environmental area, it has been renamed the Turkana Lake National Park.

This is a special lake. There is almost no vegetation, only black stones of volcanic desert. The lead-free water surface fascinates with its lifeless view of stony beaches, scorched by the scorching sun. However, the lake is fraught with real secrets. There are several volcanic islands on it. Enqactenet, which in translation from the local dialect means "Irrevocable", is surrounded by legends about the missing expeditions. South Island has its own pond surrounded by dense vegetation - papyrus and shrubs. He is also famous for his gloomy stories. These puzzles have a simple answer. Several thousand crocodiles live in the lake. Because of poor vegetation, there is no abundance of fauna, and therefore crocodiles attack people. Here are found marabou, chibis bats and a few other species of animals and birds.

The national park has a great archaeological value. Prehistoric artifacts were found in this area. Among them - the oldest stone tools. Scientists have determined their approximate age - 3.3 million years. Such findings allow us to call Africa the cradle of humanity.
