Climbing the mountains

Climbing the mountains of Africa are different from all the ascents of magnificent landscapes and wild pristine beauty of the landscape. Here you are immersed in a world that is similar to the world of another planet and it is hard to believe that such things happen on our Earth.

Climbing Kilimanjaro

In the middle of the vast plain, in the northeastern part of Tanzania, above the Masai plateau is the tallest lonely mountain in Africa - the beautiful Kilimanjaro. A sleeping volcano, 5895 meters high, is called a stratovolcano, because its peak goes into the stratosphere. From afar you can see clouds hovering over the belt, a sparkling silvery top with never melting snows. And at a depth of 400 m from the surface of the Kibo Crater there is molten lava. From 1902 to 1918 the mountain was named the Summit of Kaiser Wilhelm. To this day, there are gas releases from the craters.

The volcano has three peaks: Uhuru, height 5895 m, Mavenzi - 5149 m and Shira - 3962 m. The ascent to the main peak of Kilimanjaro - Uhuru, though the highest one, does not represent special complexity and special equipment for climbers, but all who decide to make This climb, must pass high altitude acclimatization. On its main routes tourists will overcome most of the climatic zones of the Earth, which is quite interesting and informative. It is worth paying attention to the Marangu path because of its poor statistics. Climbing it lasts 5 days and is a rather complex physical test.

The most difficult of the routes is the "Western fault". Only professional climbers can make this climb. The ascent to Mavenzi is now banned even for professionals, as it is dangerous for life. The whole mountain Kilimanjaro is an environmental area.

Mount Kenya

Right on the line of the equator, on a high mountain, the god of Corinia lives. So the locals thought from ancient times. Europeans were uncomfortable to pronounce his name, which was worn by a mountain considered sacred, and the country around it. They simplified the name. So got the name mountain and country - Kenya.

Mount Kenya was formed 3 million years after the emergence of the East African rift. This stratovolcano. Peaks of Batian, 5199 m high, Nelion - 5188 m and Lennan Peak - 4985 m, are the highest points of the mountain. Her ice cap did not melt for millennia. During this time, erosion has created many beautiful valleys. Now on the mountain there are 11 glaciers and 8 natural zones. For non-professional climbers and climbers, the Lennan Peak is available for climbing. Tourists can climb the beautiful canyon along a small rivulet, among the unusual landscapes to the glacier Karaniaga, then through the glacier to the top. From here you can see a magnificent view of all the 11 glaciers of Mount Kenya. In clear weather you can see the summit of Kilimanjaro soaring above the clouds.

Mount Meru

Like every mountain in Africa - Mount Meru has its own distinct personality. It is located not far from Kilimanjaro and is inferior to it in height, but not in beauty of scenery and exotic.

Particularly beautiful is the view of Kilimanjaro from the summit of Mount Meru. For climbing, no special basic training is required, despite a sufficiently high altitude of 4566 m, only good health and general physical preparation. Meru is an active volcano. His last eruption occurred in 1910.

Another feature of this beautiful mountain - at an altitude of 2100 m it tilts and its angle of inclination is about 30 degrees. The meadow is in Arusha, a national park. Previously, ascent was allowed on the slopes - north and west. Now it is prohibited by law. But the ashen cone is allowed to climb after receiving a special permit, using professional equipment and solely for research purposes.

Thanks to the fact that for most ascents on the African five-thousandths there is no need for professional training, these fascinating adventures are available to most tourists with good physical health. Climbing the mountains of Africa will bring aesthetic and moral pleasure to all who decide to experience this kind of tourism.
